A VISIT TO THE ATTA CHAKKI – 13th April 2017
This festival is a very important one for Sikhs as it is the Foundation day of the Khalsa Panth and for Hindus it is the Foundation day of the Arya Samaj.
It is also a day of THANKSGIVING for farmers who harvest their 'rabi' crops. To create an awareness of how grain is the source of the 'roti' we eat, the Play school children of Anubhav visited the local ‘atta chakki’ at Kailash Colony market on the 13th of April 2017.
They were shown how wheat grain 'ghehun' is put into the grinding machines to make flour and how this changes form when water is added. This learning was re-enforced at school when each child was given dough to make 'rotis' using small rolling pins. It was a fun filled experience. The Anubhav Team wishes everyone a very Happy Baisakhi and a Happy Easter too.
